- Description
- Soap opera heartthrob, Jack Wagner, from 'General Hospital' (Frisco Jones), 'Bold and the Beautiful' (Dominick Payne), and 'Melrose Place' (Dr. Peter Burns). He also had a hit song in 1985 - 'All I Need'. He was in town November 2015 filming a TV series called 'When Calls the Heart'. I saw him walking in downtown Vancouver on his day off. While he looked familiar, our conversation got off to an awkward start, as someone told me that he was somebody else. After the initial mistaken identity, I was thrilled when I realized who he was, as I was a big fan of 'General Hospital' and 'Melrose Place' during the years he was on those shows.

- Here is a photo of my friend, Miranda Ross, and I with Robert Buckley AKA Clayton from 'One Tree Hill'. We were downtown on Granville bowling and noticed him and two of his friends bowling beside us. Being a casual environment we didn't want to be the crazy fan girls so we calmly approached him. He was very nice and gladly took a selfie with us!

- Canadian actor, made Hello! Canada's Most Beautiful list for 2016. He has filmed in Vancouver on numerous occasions - for 'The Tomorrow People', 'X-Files', 'The Flash'. In August 2014, he was in town filming for 'The Flash' (playing duo role of Ronnie Raymond/Deathstorm). I saw him walking along Robson Street - I think he was getting a coffee before going to set. He was happy to take a selfie with a fan - even took two pictures to make sure I was happy with at least one of them!

- Description
- In this episode, Vancouver Special investigates the Hollywood North film industry with a behind the scenes look at shooting The X-Files in 1998 with actor Bruce Harwood, best known as X-Files Lone Gunman John Fitzgerald Byers, and veteran location mangers Kirk Johns and Julie Bernard. CBC's Ian Hanomansing sets the scene for the year and VPL librarian Tim McMillan returns with some great reads you can find at your library. Vancouver actor Bruce Harwood is no stranger to the Vancouver film industry. He has appeared in numerous television series, including The Outer Limits, Stargate SG-1 and Supernatural. However, he probably is best known for his role as John Fitzgerald Byers in The X-Files television series. Veteran location manager Kirk Johns and Creative BC Manager of Production Services Julie Bernard have been a vital part of Vancouver's film industry for more than twenty years. They join us today to talk about filming The X-Files in Vancouver and why our city is such a hot spot for film and television productions. Over the past few decades hundreds of productions have been filmed in Vancouver. With its accessible and diverse landscapes, highly-skilled film crews and world-class talent, the city is a major player in the international film industry. However, it was shows like The X-Files that truly set the scene and established Hollywood North as an ideal film destination. One of the first big network hits to be filmed in Vancouver, the popular award-winning paranormal sci-fi series debuted in 1993. Soon after X-File film shoots began to pop up across the city. Unfortunately in 1998, fans and film crews were shocked and saddened to hear that the show – after filming for five seasons in Vancouver – was moving its production to Los Angeles. Though it was a definite blow to the city's fledgling film industry at the time, Hollywood North weathered the storm. Today, thanks to productions like The X-Files, Vancouver's film crews are known as some of the best in the world and the city has earned a reputation for its ability to become the perfect backdrop for countless movies and TV shows. The theme song is “North Wind” by Vancouver band Lakefield, from the album Sounds from the Treeline.

- American actor, best known for playing Frodo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. He also was the voice of Mumble in Happy Feet. He was recently in town this spring/summer to film a new TV series called Dirk Gently, to air on BBC America. In late June, he was gracious enough to stop for a picture while on a break from filming an outdoor walking scene at Guelph Park in Vancouver's Mount Pleasant neighbourhood. There are few photos of him flashing his pearly whites, so I especially like this picture because of his winning smile!

- American actor, Elijah Wood, best known for playing Frodo Baggins in the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy. He also was the voice of Mumble in 'Happy Feet'. He was recently in town this spring/summer to film a new TV series called 'Dirk Gently', to air on BBC America. In May, I caught up with him in downtown Vancouver shortly after his arrival and before filming got started. He was very polite, and signed a 'Lord of the Rings' DVD insert for my daughter. He seemed happy to be back in Vancouver - was last here around 14 years ago he said, so this wasn't his first time in our beautiful city.

- Once upon a time, in a quiet town of Steveston, there was a girl who had a dentist appointment. As she walks towards the door, she notices a paper on the door. She reads the first line, “Once Upon A Time….” She scoffs and says to herself, “what a corny title.” At home, her sister yells “OMG did you know they're filming a TV show here?! Have you seen the trailer? It looks super interesting!” Giving it a chance, they watched the first episode together and got hooked! Since the film set was only 15 minutes away they went to watch. As one of the characters came out to greet people, they were starstruck. He was tall, had brown hair, everything that embodies a prince charming, his name was Josh Dallas and I met him 4 years ago. It's safe to say he hasn't changed a bit.
